HS Visual Arts Auditions

The Visual Arts admission will consist of three sections:

Steps for Admission

  1. Apply to School of Choice by Date to be announced, at this website (see below for directions)
    • The applicant must complete a Magnet Schools of Choice application https://yourchoicemiami.org/
    • The applicant submits a digital portfolio by Date to be announced
  2. Submit a portfolio of a total of 23 works see below for direction (see below for directions)
  3. Participate in a Meet and Greet (see below for directions)

Portfolio Section

The portfolio review will be based on a digital portfolio. All works must be submitted digitally. We will accept .jpeg or .pdf under 10MB and optional video file (video/animation) must be a maximum of three minutes and files should be compressed. For the portfolio entries, please use the following naming convention:

  • Lastname_01.jpeg
  • Lastname_02.jpeg
  • Lastname_03.jpeg and so on.

The digital portfolio has three different components:

  • Artwork: Submission of 10 examples of artwork produced during the last three years. Portfolios should include your best work and include a variety of techniques and materials, a mix of 2D and 3D work, which can include photography/video or any digital work. These entries will give us an idea of your preferred subject matter, imagination, and technical ability.
    *If you include 3D work in your portfolio, you can include up to three details or alternative angles to better document the pieces, but the total number of images should be 10 images
  • Sketchbook: Include 10 pages from your sketchbook. Please make sure we can see your best work in progress examples. These entries will give us an idea of your imagination, creativity, and drawing techniques.
  • Required Entries: Please create one example of each of the following drawings on standard paper - 8.5 X 11 inches.
    • Still life, contour line drawing with marker
    • Interior space with shading using pencil or charcoal
    • Self-Portrait any media (can include mixed media)
      *For the required entries, please use the following naming convention:
      • Lastname_Still-Life.jpeg
      • Lastname_Interior.jpeg
      • Lastname_Self-Portrait.jpeg

Digital Portfolio - 23 images total (10 images of your artwork, 10 sketchbook pages, plus 3 required entries) should be submitted via the following link https://forms.gle/t94ESZv8Vwr4aLoQ7

Meet & Greet Sessions

Applicant participates in one of our Virtual Meet + Greet Sessions the following times:

After the applicant submits a complete portfolio, NWSA will confirm the appointment for the Meet + Greet session.

SPED and LEP students are encouraged to apply.

Admission Information Workshops for 2021 - 22 Enrollment

This optional 60-minute presentation will explain in detail the application process and will help parents and students to prepare to submit the digital portfolios.
